Use of Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) to mitigate early age shrinkage in Self-Compacting Paste Systems (SCPs) containing mineral admixtures - Final Year Thesis
This research reports the effects of super absorbent polymers (SAPs) on linear early age shrinkage response of self-compacting cement paste systems (SCPs). The systems investigated contained secondary raw materials (SRMs), including fly ash (FA) and marble powder (MP). The results on SCPs show that the use of powdered super plasticizer (SP) increases the early age shrinkage of self-consolidating paste systems without SRMs and without SAP while the use of SAPs induces some early expansion in all studied formulations. SAPs were successful internal curing agents especially when used in combination with FA. (Final Year Thesis)
Architectural (AutoCAD) and Structural (ETABS) Design of a 5 storey, 500 bed hospital under gravity loads using provisions of ACI 318-14
The design of 500 bed hospital in Lahore region is required. As Lahore falls out of the earthquake zone so no special requirements for earthquake design so Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame (OMRF) was adopted following the specifications. The dead loads other than the concrete weight are assumed to be uniform over all the slabs while live loads are distributed over the slabs following the architectural plan produced using AutoCad and the values specified by the table 1-4 of ASCE 7-05.Etabs 2013 is used to analyze and design the beams and slabs while CSI Col is used for design of concrete columns. The foundations are designed manually. All the calculated steel area ratios are checked against the minimum steel criterion provided by ACI 318-14. The reinforcement detailing is also done using the same code.
Design of a 6 storey building under earthquake loading using equivalent force method in SAP 2000 following the seismic provisions of Universal Building Code Volume 2
Design of earthquake resistant buildings requires special reinforcement detailing and structural design. Special Moment Resisting Frames (SMRF) with shear wall is design to resist the lateral forces so frame falls in the category of Dual-System. The soil is stiff and building falls in Zone III region of earthquake. It is a hospital building so is an essential facility. The gravity design is made using the dead and live load as specified in the ACI building codes. The lateral forces are calculated using provisions in UBC-97 Volume 2 and are applied on each storey as storey shear in both x and y direction. Results from both the analysis were compared to check which gives the critical value and the sections were designed accordingly. The reinforcement detailing is done using the SMRF detailing in the ACI Building Code 318-11 (Chapter 21.5 to 21.8)

Planning a neighborhood (Population > 25000) near Karachi in an area of 500 Acres using focal point theme and grid iron street pattern following the provisions of National Reference Manual for Planning and Infra-Structure Standards
Design of a coastal town requires immense care with regard to the availability of clean drinking water and proper treatment of the waste water before it is being disposed of in the water body as inadequate treatment may damage the marine life and disturb the ecological balance developed between the various species in the food chain. Our neighborhood is located near Karachi and covers an area of 590 Acres. Clean water is being supplied by the water filtration plant near S.I.T.E Industrial Zone, Karachi and the nearest power grid station, K electric grid station under supervision of KESC provides electricity to the neighborhood. The pattern of the town is Focal Point with grid iron arrangement of internal streets. The reverse population method was adopted as no estimate of population before designing was available. All the specifications followed for minimum right of ways and appropriate proportioning of different land uses were taken from The National Reference Manual for Planning and Infrastructure Standards published by Government of Pakistan (Ministry of Housing and Works Environment and Urban Affair Division).
